La memoria como resistencia: Un Tributo
El Tributo de AWID es una exhibición de arte que honra a feministas, a activistas por los derechos de las mujeres y de la justicia social de todo el mundo que ya no están con nosotrxs.
En 2020, hacemos un cambio
El Tributo de este año cuenta y comparte las historias y narraciones de quienes crearon conjuntamente realidades feministas, ofrecieron visiones de alternativas a los sistemas y actores que nos oprimen, y propusieron nuevas formas de organizarnos, de movilizarnos, de luchar, de trabajar, de vivir y de aprender.
Se agregan a la galería 49 retratos nuevos de feministas y defensorxs de derechos humanos. Aunque muchxs feministas y defensorxs han fallecido debido a edad avanzada o enfermedad, muchísimxs han sido asesinadxs debido a su trabajo y por ser quienes eran.
Esta violencia creciente (de parte de Estados, empresas transnacionales, crimen organizado, sicarios no identificados, etc.) no se dirige solo a activistas individuales sino a nuestro trabajo común y a las realidades feministas.
Al compartir las historias de lxs activistas en este Tributo, mantenemos vivo su legado y nos inspiran para el trabajo futuro de nuestros movimientos.

Presentamos el Tributo por primera vez en 2012
Primero tomó forma como una exposición física de retratos y biografías de feministas y activistas que habían fallecido, en el 12º Foro Internacional de AWID, en Turquía. Ahora vive como una galería en línea, que actualizamos cada año.
Desde 2012 hemos presentado más de 467 feministas y defensorxs.

Why should I take it now?
Feminist, women’s rights, gender justice, LBTQI+ and allied movements around the world are at a critical juncture, facing a powerful backlash on previously-won rights and freedoms. Recent years have brought the rapid rise of authoritarianism, violent repression of civil society, criminalization of women and gender-diverse human rights defenders, escalating war and conflict in many parts of our world, continued perpetuation of economic injustices, and the intersecting health, ecology and climate crises.
2018: Supporting feminist movements to thrive and disrupt
This report looks back and celebrates the first year of AWID’s new strategic plan as we took our first steps towards our desired outcomes of supporting feminist movements to thrive, challenging anti-rights agendas and co-creating feminist realities.
We worked with feminists to disrupt anti-rights agendas, achieving important victories fought and won within the United Nations system when ground-breaking language on structural discrimination, sexual rights, and states’ obligations were included in a number of resolutions. Yes, the multilateral system is in crisis and in need of serious strengthening but these victories are important as they contribute to the legitimacy of feminist demands, providing feminist movements with more pressure points and momentum to advance our agendas.
We tried and tested different ways to build knowledge with feminist movements through webinars, podcasts and ‘live’ conversations. We developed facilitation guides with popular educators to reclaim knowledge in the interest of social and gender justice, even about a topic as seemingly opaque as illicit funding flows. We commissioned blogs and opinions about how feminist groups fund and resource themselves and threw light on the threats facing our human rights systems.
Within AWID, we practiced and learned from our shared leadership approach, and told the story of the trials and tribulations of co-leading a global, virtual organization. We don’t have a definitive answer to what feminist leadership looks like, but we know, a year on, that a continued commitment to collective experimentation and learning has enabled us to keep building an organization that we are all excited to contribute to.
As we look back on this year, we want to thank all our friends and supporters, colleagues and companions, who have given their time and shared their wealth of knowledge and wisdom with us. We want to thank our members who helped frame our strategic plan and joined us to make feminist demands. We could not do this work without you.

Our strategic plan “Feminist Realities” completed its final year at the end of 2022. For the past five years, this bold framework pushed us to go beyond feminist futures and to recognize the feminist solutions and ways of life that already exist in the here and now. Realities that must be uplifted, celebrated, and popularized. The Feminist Economies We Love multimedia story project and Our:Resource knowledge hub on autonomous ways to resource feminist activism are just two examples of this visionary work, always deeply collective with diverse feminist movements.

The survey offers the opportunity to share your lived experience of mobilizing funding to support your organizing; claim your power as an expert on how money moves and who it reaches; and contribute to collective and consistent advocacy to funders moving more and better funding. Over the last two decades, AWID’s WITM research has proven to be a key resource for activists and funders. We wholeheartedly invite you to join us in its third iteration to highlight the actual state of resourcing, challenge false solutions, and point out how funding must change for movements to thrive and meet the complex challenges of our times.

Biography
Ritu est une technologue féministe qui apporte son expérience au secteur non lucratif, animée par une passion pour l'utilisation d'approches innovantes pour trouver des solutions technologiques féministes. Titulaire d'un master en technologie des applications informatiques de l'Institut indien de technologie, son rôle au sein de l'AWID couvre un large spectre de responsabilités. De la supervision de la sécurité numérique et gestion des serveurs à l'administration des bases de données, en passant par le renforcement des capacités, l'évaluation technologique, la mise en œuvre de logiciels et de solutions cloud, Ritu veille à ce que l'infrastructure informatique de l'AWID soit résiliente et efficace. Avant de rejoindre l'AWID, elle a joué un rôle central dans l'avancement des initiatives technologiques des secteurs de la promotion de la santé et de l'environnement, alimentée par son engagement à tirer parti de la technologie pour le bien social.

Biography
Marianne Mesfin Asfaw is a Pan-African feminist who is dedicated to social justice and building community. She has a BA in Gender Studies and International Relations from the University of British Columbia (UBC), and an MA in Gender Studies and Law from SOAS University of London. She has previously worked in academic administration and international student support, and has worked as a researcher and facilitator in feminist and non-profit spaces. She has also worked and volunteered at non-governmental organizations including Plan International in administrative roles. Prior to taking up her current role she worked in logistics and administrative support at AWID. She is from Ethiopia, was raised in Rwanda and is currently based in Tkaronto/Toronto, Canada. She enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. In the warmer months she can be found strolling around familiar neighborhoods in search of obscure cafés and bookstores to wander into.

Nuestra misión es apoyar a los movimientos feministas, de derechos de las mujeres y por la justicia de género para que progresen y para que sean una fuerza impulsora de retos a los sistemas de opresión y para la creación conjunta de realidades feministas.

Desarrollamos nuestro trabajo a través de estas tácticas:
Influencia, incidencia y campañas
Hacemos uso colaborativo de nuestro acceso, poder, recursos y relaciones para influir estratégicamente sobre las políticas y las prácticas. Nos proponemos impulsar agendas feministas a través de nuestro trabajo con quienes tienen poder de decisión política, con financiadoras y con activistas en los espacios regionales y mundiales. Para reforzar nuestro poder e influencia colectivos, también procuramos influir sobre los movimientos feministas y de derechos de las mujeres para que pongan en lugar central a los movimientos históricamente oprimidos.
Convocatoria y conexiones
Utilizamos nuestro poder de convocatoria para facilitar el diálogo y pensar estrategias sobre temas clave. Conectamos a nuestra membresía y aliadxs entre sí, para que compartan e intercambien recursos, ideas y acciones sobre temas relevantes. Organizamos y facilitamos espacios en los que participan y se fortalecen diversos movimientos, espacios para imaginar y concebir nuevos futuros, para desarrollar tácticas de influencia efectivas y para crear juntxs agendas y procesos transformadores.
Solidaridad y construcción de puentes
Trabajamos para movilizar a nuestra membresía y a los movimientos que apoyamos para fortalecer la acción colectiva en solidaridad con causas feministas y con lxs defensorxs que están en peligro. Construimos colaboraciones de largo plazo, nos comprometemos en la escucha activa y la solidaridad continua. Trabajamos con defensorxs para construir conocimiento, redes de apoyo y solidaridad para la protección y el bienestar.
Arte y expresión creativa
Reconocemos el valor único y estratégico de las iniciativas culturales y creativas en la lucha contra la opresión y la injusticia. Trabajamos con artistas que le dan un lugar central a las voces feministas y a las narrativas de la comunidades históricamente oprimidas. En esta táctica emergente, vemos al arte y la expresión creativa como algo que nos ayuda a concebir un mundo donde las realidades feministas siguen floreciendo y sigan siendo celebradas.
Nuestras iniciativas
Nuestras iniciativas trabajan en las intersecciones de escenarios de cambio que buscamos abordar, de los movimientos que priorizamos y de las tácticas que usamos:
Promoción de los derechos universales y la justicia
Monitoreamos, documentamos y hacemos visible cómo están operando y aglutinándose lxs actorxs anti-derechos en los espacios multilaterales y apoyamos a los movimientos feministas, de derechos de las mujeres y por la justicia de género y sus aliadxs para contrarrestar esa influencia e impacto.
Construcción de economías feministas
Desde perspectivas como el extractivismo, la justicia impositiva y la rendición de cuentas corporativa, construimos conocimiento sobre el poder corporativo y su influencia; abogamos por que las empresas asuman sus responsabilidad así como por la distribución equitativa de la riqueza, y amplificamos las propuestas feministas para lograr economías justas.
Financiamiento de los movimientos feministas
Desarrollamos análisis accesibles y orientados a la acción acerca del estado del financiamiento para los movimientos feministas. Nos proponemos influir sobre las políticas y prácticas de las financiadoras, incrementar y sostener el financiamiento para el cambio social feminista, y apoyar las necesidades y estrategias de los movimientos.
Además del impacto que pretendemos tener en el mundo, AWID está expresamente comprometida con el fortalecimiento de nuestro propio aprendizaje y resiliencia organizacionales, para poder fortalecer mejor a los movimientos feministas del mundo.

Snippet FEA Mariama Sonko (EN)
This is Mariama Sonko, an inspiring small-scale rural farmer, eco-feminist and a woman human rights defender.
She lives in Niaguiss, a town in the southwest of Senegal. Growing up in a family and community of rural farmers, she witnessed the essential role of women in food production and seed preservation from a very early age, while also being immersed in the rhythms and working of the land. Mariama has been defending local agricultural knowledge and peasant practices since the 1990s. As a mother of five children, the food she grows herself is the main source of sustenance for her family.
She is currently the president of “Nous Sommes la Solution'' and is involved in promoting agroecological practices and family farming, encouraging food sovereignty, biodiversity and farmer seed preservation, and demanding equitable access to resources and land for women across West Africa.
